Obituary: Longfield, Dave

Dave Longfield, age 62 of Beaver Dam, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.

Dave was born on January 8, 1951 in Chicago, IL to Elmer and June (nee Thiell) Longfield. He graduated in 1969 from Steinmetz High School in Illinois. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1971-73 as an engineer. Dave worked at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Chicago, IL until 1979, when he moved to Beaver Dam. He did maintenance work for almost 20 years at the Beaver Dam Mall, before working as the Superintendent at Oakwood Cemetery in Beaver Dam for over 10 years. Dave also owned his own small engine repair business for many years and served as the 14th Ward Alderperson in Beaver Dam from 1994-96.

On January 27, 1984, Dave was united in marriage to Sue Loeck, and their marriage was blessed with three children. Dave loved his dogs and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was blessed with a “gift to gab” and always enjoyed talking to people as well as being known for his jokes and stories about the good old days. He also liked gardening and selling his produce at the local Farmer’s Market for almost 20 years.

Dave is survived by his wife, Sue Longfield of Beaver Dam; his children, Teresa (Jamie) Wolff of Beaver Dam, Dusty (Libbie) Longfield of Winona, MN and Amanda Longfield of Beaver Dam; his grandchildren, Cole, Briana and Kaylie Wolff and Lillie Longfield and his buddy, “Big Lou”. He is further survived by his brother, Eugene (Charlotte) Longfield of Hebron, IL, his mother-in-law, Marilyn Loeck of Beaver Dam, his brother-in-law, Rich Loeck of Beaver Dam, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law, Carlton Loeck and other relatives.

Visitation for Dave will take place on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam. A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Beaver Dam.
