Obituary: Alton J. Marwitz

Alton J. Marwitz, age 77 of Marquette, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at home.

Alton was born on February 1, 1937 in the Township of Manchester to John “Jack” and Verna (nee Lohry) Marwitz. He graduated from Markesan High School in 1956 and worked as a foreman at National Rivet in Waupun. On May 17, 1958, Alton was united in marriage to Donna Ebert at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marquette, where he was a member. Alton was a hard-working, kind and generous man with a strong faith and belief in God. He had a very positive outlook on life and was often whistling or singing along to a tune.

Alton enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, refinishing furniture, watching local high school sports, water skiing with the family on Lake Puckaway, cheering on the Packers and playing cards at Del and Karen’s. He also enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino and visiting Aunt Doris on Beaver Dam Lake. Alton will be fondly loved and remembered by many.

Alton is survived by his wife, Donna of Marquette; his children, Sonia (David) Robson of Dalton, Scott (Laura Forbes) Marwitz of Appleton, Glenn (Jamie) Marwitz of Waupun and Kristin Marwitz of Waupun; his grandchildren, Danielle, Carly, Jonathan, Lukas (Holly) and Erik Marwitz and Amanda Broadway; his great-grandchildren, Layla, Wyatt and Harlow; his uncle, Russell Lohry of Marquette, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers-in-law, James Ebert, Lloyd Zwieg, Byron Kok and other relatives.

A Funeral Service for Alton will be held on Friday, March 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 266 Sherman Ave., Marquette with Rev. Michael Plagenz officiating. Burial will take place at Grand View Cemetery in Marquette.

Visitation for Alton will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014  from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 181 S. Main St., Markesan and also prior to the service at church on Friday, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
