What is that brown stone building next door to Culvers?

Have you ever driven past that brown stone building next to Culvers and wondered, “What is that?” Since 1996, this has been the home of the Beaver Dam Area Arts Association and it’s official name is The Seippel Homestead and Center for the Arts. If you think this destination is just for the artist or the artsy, you couldn’t be more mistaken.

Do you have a camera and are interested in taking better photos? Come and join the photography club, called The Lightcatchers. Do you want to learn to paint? Check out one of the painting classes held throughout the year.Are you interested movies? Come and join the film/Movie Critique group. Do you want to write but have no idea if you are any good or wish to publish your writing? Come and join the Creative Writing Group.  Maybe you wish to be a songwriter? Come and join the songwriters group.

Do you want to get your kids interested in art? Check out one of the youth art classes. Would you like attend an art class with your younger child? Then check out one of the Mommy and Me art classes. Do you want to network with other people and share information about art projects? Come and join the Art Social group. Does your child enjoy writing? They can come and join the Young Writers group. Looking for something to do a on a rainy Saturday? Check out the Seippel Center website to see what exhibit is  showing. Exhibits are absolutely free and BDAAA offers a mix of paid and free classes.

BDAAA also has a wonderful gift shop. Are you looking for unique, handmade, one of a kind gifts for that special someone? Check out the gift shop. Everything is handmade by local and regional artists. And if you need special Christmas gifts, then the gift shop expands into the Holiday Gift Gallery during November and December  with lots more inventory for the holidays.

Do you have a few hours a week available and you are looking for something to do? Why not volunteer at the Seippel Center? It’s a wonderful place to meet all sorts of creative people. If you would like to help out but don’t want to volunteer, you can donate art supplies for the youth art group. You can also help sustain exhibits and programs by becoming a member of the Beaver Dam Art Association. With a membership, you receive a discount on  classes and are one of the first to know about events and activities. The membership fees allow them to continue offering free admission to the exhibits, pay the bills, provide scholarships and more.

So what is that brown stone house between Culvers and National Exchange Bank? It is a gem of a resource for the city of Beaver Dam and surrounding region and a hub of creativity.
