Obituary: Helen G. Siedschlag

Helen G. Siedschlag, age 82, of Markesan, passed away on May 6, 2014 at the home of her daughter, in the Town of Byron. She went peacefully to our Lord in the loving presence of her family.

She was born on September 3, 1931 in New Berlin, WI, the daughter of the late Frank and Florence (Koentopp) Makurat. Helen graduated from Ripon High School with the Class of 1949. On September 2, 1950, she was united in marriage to Carl F. Siedschlag Jr. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Green Lake, WI. Through this union, they were blessed to have six children.

Helen worked as a waitress at the Lantern’s Supper Club for many years, as well as at Prairie Lanes Bowling Center as a cleaning person. She also enjoyed babysitting children during the morning bowling league and within her own home.  Family meant everything to Helen, and she spent all of the time that she could with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed knitting for her family, playing cards, including cribbage and Sheepshead, attending Country Fest in Cadott, reading books and bowling. Helen and Carl traveled to Arizona in the winter months, and they also enjoyed traveling with friends and family.

Helen is survived by her children, Rosalie Nelson of Fairchild, WI; Ronald Siedschlag, Rita (Dean) Dolgner, both of Markesan; Russell (Tami) Siedschlag of Fairwater; Randal (Julie) Siedschlag and Renee (Alfred) Straschinske, both of Fond du Lac; grandchildren, Glen (Sarah) Hein, Bridget (Brad) Zillmer, Alison Dolgner, Branden (Mandi) Luehring, Zachary Siedschlag, Heather (Jesse) Bethke, Cory Siedschlag, Matthew (Krystal), Jacob, Taylor and Haley Straschinske, Wade Nelson, Tina Sass, Andrea (Dan) Klapper, Jon (Amy) Dolgner and Kristina Dolgner, Selena and Garrett Hayden; great grandchildren, Nathan, Samantha and AJ Hein, Bryanna, Brooklyn and Brayden Zillmer, Rylee Siedschlag, Emma Straschinske, Natalee Bethke, Tyler and Tia Olson, Tom Nelson, Sean, Aaron, Jesse and Tiffany Klapper, Natalee and Colin Dolgner, Heidi and Andrew Jenkins; brother-in-law, David (Jenny) Siedschlag; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Helen will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Helen was also preceded in death by her husband Carl on October 30, 2000; one brother, Frank Makurat; son-in-law, Kenny Nelson; and 3 great grandchildren, Karla, Devon and Asher.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am. on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 45 Saint Joseph St. in Markesan. Rev. David Greenfield will officiate. Burial will follow in Markesan Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 9, 2014 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at Cornerstone Funeral and Cremation Services, 181 S. Main St., Markesan, and also prior to the Mass on Saturday at church, beginning at 10:00 am.

The family would like to thank all of the Agnesian Hospice staff for the care given to Helen. A special thank you to our family, who all came together in a time of need to support one another and give all the loving care to our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
