Obituary: Sarah Frances Johnson

Sarah Frances Johnson, 74 years old, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2014 at Hillside Manor, Beaver Dam, following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 24th at 1:30 p.m. at the Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Horicon, with the Chaplain Dennis Richards officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday, May 24th from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Horicon.

Sarah was born on September 11, 1939, the daughter of George and Lois (Radke) Ulmer in Horicon, WI. Her father George owned and operated the Horicon Furniture Store and the Ulmer Funeral Home for many years.

After graduating from Horicon High School in 1957, Sarah attended the University of Wisconsin Madison for two years before transferring to Northwestern University, where she was a 1961 graduate. Sarah had remarkable singing and acting talents and she performed in numerous musicals in both high school and college.

For many years, Sarah lived in Los Angeles, CA and worked in advertising, first with retail stores where she also coordinated many high-end fashion shows as well as film production companies. Her retail career included Robinsons, Bullocks and Marshall Fields. Her movie advertising career included Fairbanks Productions and JP Advertising. After returning to Wisconsin in 1981 she married Charles Johnson on May 23, 1982 who was also a graduate of Horicon High School. They have resided in Beaver Dam for 32 years.

Sarah will be remembered for her many talents – singing, acting, writing, humor and quick wit. She enjoyed travel, good books, and great cuisine.

Sarah is survived by her husband of 32 years Charles Johnson of Beaver Dam, her sister Fran Ulmer and family in Alaska, and numerous other relatives and friends.

If desired, memorials may be made in Sarah F. Johnson’s name to the Dodge County Humane Society.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Hillside Manor and the Hospice Program for their unselfish service and care during Sarah’s time at the manor. Many new friends were made during her stay there. They will be missed and never forgotten.
