Dorothy “Tootie” Hermanson

Dorothy “Tootie” Hermanson, 101, of Columbus passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at “At Home Again” Assisted Living in Columbus.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Columbus with the Rev. Daniel Sims officiating.  A visitation will also be held on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church.  Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Columbus.  

Dorothy was born December 23, 1912 in Columbus, WI to Carl and Helen (Hemling) Schilling.  She was married to Russell Hermanson on July 25, 1936 at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage in Columbus.  She was a lifelong member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church serving as a member of the Ladies Aid Society and treasurer for many years.  

Dorothy attended the Columbus public schools and graduated from Columbus High School in 1930.  She was employed in the office of Columbus Foods Corp. (Stokely’s) for 15 years.  In 1953, she was elected treasurer of the City of Columbus and served in that capacity for 25 years.  She also served on the Hillside Cemetery Board.

Tootie enjoyed walking and was an avid card player.  She belonged to several card groups where she played bridge, sheepshead and euchre.  Tootie was also an avid Milwaukee Brewer fan.  

Tootie is survived by her two sons: Michael (Bonnie) of Berlin and Robert (Jan) of Madison; three grandchildren: Brett (Kristen) Hermanson of Berlin, Heather Hermanson of Three Lakes and Robert Hermanson II of Colorado; two step-grandchildren: David (Tina) Savoy and Pam Sawyer; two great-grandchildren: Bryn and Keean Hermanson; one step-great grandchild, Kayla Sawyer; two sisters-in-law: Kathryn and Eldora Hermanson; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Russell in 1950; two brothers Lester and Carl Schilling, and her sister Margaret Lobeck.  

Memorials may be directed to Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Columbus.
