David Lawrence Lager, age 71 from Markesan , passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2014, at home with family by his side, following a valiant fight with esophageal cancer.

Dave was born on December 28, 1942 at St Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee, WI to the late Rollin and Eleanor (Gray) Lager.  He was the oldest of eight children.  He grew up in Milwaukee, was baptized at Ev. Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and confirmed at Lake Park Lutheran Church.  The family moved to Markesan in August 1957 where he attended Markesan High School.  In November 1960, he entered the U.S. Navy serving with the Hurricane Hunters in Puerto Rico for three years.  On November 28, 1964, he married Linda Sell, of Markesan, at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Kingston, WI.  This year they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.  Together they had four wonderful sons.  Dave enjoyed sailing and camping, especially at Peninsula State Park in Door County, with his family.

Dave loved being a salesman and talking to people.  He started at age ten selling boxed Christmas cards door to door in Milwaukee.  For many years, he was a salesman for M.P.B. Builders.  He also owned and operated his own trucking company and a construction company.  With the Wisconsin Southern Railroad in Ripon, WI, he served as Operations Manager for the piggyback operation.  His love for trains led him to become a volunteer for the Wisconsin Southern Passenger Train for several years.  Along with trains, his hobbies included woodworking and fixing items in his workshop to sell at the Princeton Flea Market.  He was great at fixing just about anything.  He was also a charter member of Markesan Lion’s Club and a member of the Kingston American Legion.

Dave is survived by his wife, Linda of Markesan; son; Brian (Tracy Larsen) Lager of Markesan; son; Tavis (Jennifer) Lager and granddaughters Jayden of Peoria, AZ and Kersten Dolgner of St. Paul, MN; daughter-in-law, Kerri Lager and grandchildren, Hannah and Tanner of Rochelle, IL; son; Clint (Nancy) Lager and grandchildren, Tristan, Bryson, Caiden, Janessa and step-grandson, Andrew Moreno of Las Vegas, NV; siblings, Jim (Barbara) Lager of Atlanta, GA, Wayne (Dale Both) Lager of Oshkosh, Ellen (Lon) Kolaks of Fenton, MO, Arvid (Karen Evenson) Lager of Racine, Verne Lager of Springville, CA, Vicky (Gary) Kolaks of St. Louis, MO, Glenn Lager of California; brother-in-laws, Howard (Donna) Sell and Roger (Carla) Sell of Markesan; several nieces and nephews and many friends.
