Obituary: John Richard Bornor

John Richard Bornor of Racine, WI passed away September 2,  2014 at All Saints Hospital in Racine after a month-long battle with cancer. He was born February 20, 1949, in Rockford, IL, to J. Richard and Doris (Freer) Bornor. 

John was a graduate of Guilford H.S. in Rockford and The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA, with a BS in History. He earned an MS in journalism from Penn State University. John was a member of the swim team in high school and in college. 

John was united in marriage  to Jill VanHaren July 18, 1987, in Beaver Dam, WI. She predeceased him on June 23, 2011, in Racine.  

John spent his entire career as a newspaper man, retiring as copy editor at the Racine Journal Times in July, 2014. 

Survivors include his sister Ann (Peter) Boline; nephews, John (Sara) and Nicholas Boline; brothers-in-law, T.J. (Kim) VanHaren, Michael (Jessi) VanHaren, Chris (Carla) VanHaren,  and Mark (Nerissa) Wong-VanHaren; his in-laws, Roger and Marilyn VanHaren; ten nieces and nephews: one great-niece and one great-nephew.  

John was predeceased by his wife Jill and his parents.

A private burial will be held in St. Patrick Cemetery in Beaver Dam and a memorial service will follow at a later date in Rockford, IL.

Memorials may be made to the Racine Food Pantry, the Beaver Dam Community Theater, or to the charity of your choice.
