Vernietta A. “Polly” Horne, age 99, of Beaver Dam, died on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.
The visitation will be at First Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam on Friday, September 19, 2014 from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow at the church on Friday at 1:00 p.m. with Revs. Terry Larson and Mark Jensen officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Ridge Cemetery in Kenosha on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.
The former Vernietta Anna Mantzke was born on September 20, 1914 in Cashton, Wisconsin to Henry and Laura (Perso) Mantzke. On September 10, 1938 she was united in marriage with Richard P. Hansen. He preceded her in death in 1967 and she later married Vernon O. Horne on July 31, 1971. Vernietta was a member of First Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. She volunteered for many years as a member of the Beaver Dam Hospital Auxiliary in its gift shop and for Meals on Wheels. Vernietta enjoyed bowling and playing cards, especially Bridge. She enjoyed gardening and traveling. Vernietta especially enjoyed her winters spent in Texas and spending time with her family.
Survivors are her children, Dianne (Terry) Kleber of Phoenix, AZ, and Peter (Gail) Hansen of Wheatland, WI; step-children, Rosanne M. Horne and Maren E. Horne; grandchildren, Patricia (Eric) Messinger, Megan (Sean) Hahn, Jennifer (Jeffrey) Rossi, and Kristopher Hansen; step-grandchildren, Melissa and Amanda Mravec; nine great grandchildren; sister, Eunice Goronja of Milwaukee; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dick in 1967, husband Vernon in 2010; an infant son, Richard Hansen; brother, Earl; and sister Betty Neu.
