Obituary: Virginia L. Schachtner

Virginia L. Schachtner, age 89, of Beaver Dam, died on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Hillside Manor.

There will be a Rosary service for Virginia at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 4:30 p.m. The visitation will follow at the funeral home on Wednesday until 6:30 pm. There will also be a visitation at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church on Thursday, January 15, 2015 from 10:30 a.m. until 11:20 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. with Fr. Mike Erwin officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Beaver Dam.

The former Virginia Louise Henning was born on May 27, 1925 in Columbus, Wisconsin to Louis and Mable E. (Lang) Henning. On November 12, 1946, she was united in marriage with Joseph P. Schachtner in Reeseville. Virginia was a nursing assistant at Columbus Hospital for a number of years. She also did general nursing for the County of Milwaukee and at St. Mary’s Hospital in Columbus. Virginia enjoyed volunteering her time at Hillside Hospital and helping with Meals on Wheels. She was a faithful member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish, where she was involved with the Christian Women and served as past president.

Survivors are her children, Jim (Joan) Schachtner of Villages, FL, Jerry (Judy) Schachtner of Beaver Dam, Colleen “Kelly” (Terry) Henning of Beaver Dam, and John (Gail Brunner) Schachtner of Prairie du Sac; 11 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild to arrive in Februrary. She is further survived by a sister-in-law, Marilyn Schachtner; many other relatives and friends. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1998; grandson, Paul Deck; and infant brother, Lewellyn.
