Obituary: Eugene L. Hatzinger

Eugene L. Hatzinger, 86, of Columbus was called home to heaven to be with his Savior and the love of his life on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 from the Columbus Nursing and Rehab Center.

Eugene was born the son of Leo F. and Ida (Kehl) Hatzinger on August 3, 1928 in Columbus.  He was a 1946 graduate of Columbus High School.  Eugene was married to Mary Anna Stenberg on November 18, 1951 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Columbus of which he was a lifelong member.  He was employed as an auto mechanic and later as an auto mechanic instructor at MATC in Madison.

Eugene served his country in the U.S. Air Force.  He was fascinated with all things mechanical and could fix almost anything.  Eugene loved his God and his family.  He had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Eugene is survived by his three children: Vicki (Wayne) Hoffman of Cambridge, WI, Bruce (Joyce) Hatzinger of Columbus and Gary Hatzinger of Rio; his sister, Mary Jane Premo of Columbus; his grandchildren: Joshua (Katie) Hoffman, Mathew (Chimene) Halfmann, Jeni (Adrian) Arians, Aubrie (Ryne) Franz, Austin Hatzinger; eight great-grandchildren: Taylen, Lydia, Asten, Alexa, Aiden, Avery, Myles and Nolan; his sister-in-law, Lorraine Beers; his brother-in-law, Donald McKay; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Anna in 2003, his sister Joe Ann and his granddaughter Leesa Hoffman. 

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 30, 2015 at the Koepsell-Zeidler Funeral Home in Columbus from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., and on Saturday, January 31st from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 am at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Columbus.  The Rev. Daniel Sims will officiate.  Inurnment will take place at Hillside Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Columbus or to the charity of one’s choice.
