Obituary: Eugene "Gene" A. Schroeder

Eugene "Gene" A. Schroeder, age 85 of Beaver Dam, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.
Eugene was born on September 25, 1929 in Neda, WI to Hubert and Leona (Miller) Schroeder. In his childhood, Gene worked on farms, during the post years of the great depression throughout Lowell and Reeseville. Gene worked in the foundry at John Deere Van Brunt in 1949 before serving in the military during the Korean conflict from January 1950 to December 1951. He was stationed in Europe (Germany, Holland, France) serving the NATO forces. He was married to Agnes Reihbrandt on April 14, 1951, returning to Germany to complete his tour of duty. He attended Madison Area Technical College receiving a degree in Tool, Die and Manufacturing. He taught at the school, which he really enjoyed. He then made his career as a tool and die maker for Metalfab in Beaver Dam, from which he retired after 40 years. He enjoyed working on automobiles as Gene and his son hand built a custom hot rod roadster when David was a teenager. He enjoyed metalworking, carpentry and masonry and took great pride in his projects.
Gene will be greatly missed by his son, David and daughter-in-law, Barbara. He is also survived by his brother, Roger of Madison.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes in 2010; parents; brothers, Harvey, Earl, Harland and sister, Dolly. Eugene shared his life and love with many cats and dogs over the years and they loved him back.
A private funeral service for Eugene will be held at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services. Cremation will take place and graveside services at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Township of Beaver Dam, will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Eugene's name to the Dodge County Humane Society, N6839 State Rd. 26, Juneau, WI 53039.
