Obituary: Gilbert “Gib” L. Wild

Gilbert “Gib” L. Wild, age 81 of Beaver Dam, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, April 13, 2015 at Sylvan Crossing in Beaver Dam.

Gib was born on January 3, 1934 in LeRoy, WI, the son of Alfred and Philomina (Reiser) Wild. He graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1952, where he played basketball, track, baseball and excelled in football, earning All-American Honors and played in 1951 All Star Game with Bart Starr. On April 21, 1956, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Veling at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Beaver Dam. Gib dedicated his life to serving and protecting others. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1956-1961, and continued by spending his career serving as a police officer for 32 years with the Beaver Dam Police Department. Throughout the years, he also worked as a parts man for International Harvester. He was also a member of the Dodge County Swat Team, the John E. Miller American Legion Post 146 and the Beaver Dam Knights of Columbus Council 1837. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, now known as St. Katharine Drexel Parish.

Gib enjoyed playing softball, going bowling and playing cards and cribbage. He was an avid Packers and Badgers fan. His creative energy was often spent using miscellaneous parts to build bicycles. He looked forward to going out to breakfast daily at Walker’s and treasured all of the time he spent with his grandkids.

Gib is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Beaver Dam; his children, Craig (Jan) Wild of Beaver Dam, Paul Wild of Beaver Dam, Ann Wild of Beaver Dam, David (Mindy) Wild of Beaver Dam, Jim (Karen) Wild of Collierville, TN, Julie (Dean) Endlich of West Bend and Mike (Kristin) Wild of Deerfield; his grandchildren, Eric (Lindsay), Stacy (Chris), Krista, Kathyrn (Brian), Sara, Andrea (Geoff), Jacob, Madelyn, Courtney, Alicia, Carter, Taylor; seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Angie Krezinski of Beaver Dam; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, four sisters and other relatives.

Visitation for Gib will be held on Friday, April 17, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam. Military honors will be presented at the funeral home by the John E. Miller American Legion Post 146. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. at Cornerstone with Father Nathan Reesman officiating. Burial will take place at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, town of Beaver Dam. Following the burial, a luncheon will be served at Cornerstone.
