Reuben “Ruby” C. Tiedt, 85, of Beaver Dam and formerly of Columbus passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at the Columbia Health Care Center.
A visitation for Reuben will be held on Tues., May 12th from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Koepsell-Zeidler Funeral Home in Columbus and on Wed., May 13th from 10 – 11 a.m. also at the funeral home. A funeral service for Reuben will be held on Wed., May 13th at 11:00 at Koepsell-Zeidler Funeral Home with the Rev. David Beyers-Dent officiating. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Columbus with graveside military honors conducted by the Columbus VFW Post 8090.
Reuben Clarence was born the son of Edward and Ida (Schulz) Tiedt on May 10, 1929 in Columbus, WI. He was married to Lois Schwoch. Later, he was married to Rosemarie “Ronie” Henkel.
Reuben “Ruby” had been a driver for Duffy Brothers for many years. In 1955, he began working for the Columbus Department of Public Works where he later became the Director. Reuben retired after more than 20 years of service.
Reuben proudly served in the United States Army with the 2nd Infantry during the Korean Conflict from 1952 – 1957. He received two purple hearts during his service to his country. Ruby was a life time member of the VFW Post 8090 of Columbus and also a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He recently went on the Badger Honor Flight for Korean Veterans.
He was a member of the Columbus United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and presenting his famous pies and wines. He enjoyed watching the Packers and NASCAR, especially Danica Patrick. He loved going to the farm to visit his donkeys, Howie and Mama. Ruby loved family gatherings, his reunions with his Army buddies and his friendship with the members of the VFW Post 8090.
Ruby is survived by his son Gregory (fiancée Jacki Miles) Tiedt of Columbus and her children: Kami and Kelson; his former wife Lois Tiedt of Columbus; step-son Dean (Gail) Henkel of Sun Prairie and their children: Kristin (Chris) Hooper, Anica Henkel and Tyler Henkel; Ruby’s special friend Susan; also other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rosemarie ”Ronie” in 2004 and his sisters and brothers: Clara, Walter, Helena, Anna, Lilly, Lora, Edward, Irma, Harold, Henry and Arthur.
Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the Disabled American Veterans.
