Scag Power Equipment Continually Innovating Products for Professionals and Homeowners Alike

Scag Power Equipment, a division of Metalcraft of Mayville Inc., began by building one commercial-grade lawn mower model, a gear-drive riding mower.  Today, with over 50 models, Scag Power Equipment has become one of the largest independent manufacturers of commercial mowing equipment in the world.

Over the course of its more than 30 years in business, Scag has continually innovated the equipment upon which professional landscapers rely and homeowners enjoy.  In 1989 Scag introduced the first dual pump and motor hydro-drive walk-behind mower, delivering 30% more productivity than the existing belt-driven walk-behind mowers.

While other companies were playing “catch up” with walk-behinds, Scag turned its attention to an entirely new product category, zero-turn riding mowers.  In 1990, Scag introduced the first truly commercial-grade zero-turn rider, the STZ.  This model delivered more speed, maneuverability and efficiency than any other rider at the time.

Scag’s many years of experience in zero-turn riders have encompassed a continuing evolution from the STZ to current models like the Liberty Z, Freedom Z, Tiger Cat, Cheetah and Turf Tiger.  Each mower model has a distinct set of features to provide lawn care professionals and homeowners with a lawn mower that not only makes the task of cutting lawn take less time to complete, but to also make the time spent on the mower more comfortable and enjoyable.

Two of Scag’s most recent product additions, the V-Ride stand-on mower and the Cheetah zero-turn rider, reflect an increased focus on operator comfort.  The V-Ride allows the operator to stand on a spring-cushioned platform while mowing, reducing strain on the back.  The Cheetah features a revolutionary Operator Suspension System which isolates and cushions the operator station via an adjustable coil-over shock.  With the Cheetah, Scag’s innovation created a unique way to pamper the operator without affecting the quality-of-cut, as some other mower suspension systems do.

In late 2012, Scag announced their purchase of the Giant-Vac company, launching an all-new lineup of Scag Giant-Vac leaf and debris management equipment.  The Scag team took these proven products and reengineered them for even greater performance, reliability and ease-of-operation.

For the 2015 lawn mowing season, Scag introduced its first zero-turn riding mower designed exclusively for their residential customers.  The Liberty Z offers homeowners a premium lawn mower option at a tremendous value.  And like all other Scag mowers, the Liberty Z is exclusively sold and serviced by Scag’s top-notch dealer network.

“Simply the Best” is a statement Scag has used throughout its history.  For the company, it’s not just a slogan…  It’s the way they build their products and conduct their business.  They have a strong commitment to their customers, industry and employees, and a relentless drive for constant improvement.

Scag Power Equipment, a division of Metalcraft of Mayville Inc., is one of the largest independent manufacturers of commercial lawn mowing equipment in the United States.  Metalcraft of Mayville Inc., an ISO 9001:2008 Registered company, manufactures products in its two facilities, totaling over 680,000 square feet, located in Mayville and West Bend, Wisconsin.
