Obituary: Joseph V. Murphy

Joseph V. Murphy, age 88, of Beaver Dam, died on Monday, December 14, 2015 at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

The visitation will be at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church on Saturday, December 19, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:20 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at the church on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. with Fr. Michael J. Erwin officiating. Burial will be at St. Patrick Cemetery in Beaver Dam.

Joseph Vincent Murphy was born on February 8, 1927 to Vincent M. and Ellen M. Murphy in Gays Mills, Wisconsin. While attending University of Wisconsin Platteville, Joe met the love of his life, Marjorie Ertz. After graduation, they were married on July 19, 1952 in Lancaster. He taught Agriculture in Lime Ridge for a few years and in 1961, began working for Mid-America Mutual Insurance which brought him to Beaver Dam. In 1972, he went into business as a real estate developer in the Beaver Dam area until his retirement in 1990. Although he was retired, he never slowed down. Joe and Marjorie spent hours walking around searching for hickory nuts to use for various things. They also were able to enjoy over 20 winters in Mesa, AZ. He collected Ford tractors and enjoyed his family and summers at the lake.

Survivors are his wife, Marjorie of Beaver Dam; children, Terry (Dena) of Fall River, Patrick (Beth) of Green Bay, Kelley (Jamie) Murphy of North Prairie, and Monica Bredin of Waukesha; grandchildren, Sarah, Kathryn, and Mark Murphy, Emily (Aaron) Embury and Erica (Curtis) DeQuaine, Brett and Barry Murphy, Michelle,Molly, and Matthew Bredin, Caitlin and Megan Casey, Travis and Tyler (Laura) Wocelka, and Raya (Jeff) Clements; great grandson, Arlo Patrick Embury; great granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth; brothers, Bernard J. Murphy of Janesville, John (Joan) Murphy of Aurora, CO, Jim (Wendy) Murphy of Drumheller, AB, Canada,Michael (Jamie) Murphy of Bellflower, CA; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Catherine Flaten, Monica Gorman, Marita Abdoo, and Theresa Murphy; and his son-in-law, Greg Bredin.
