Obituary: Robert “Bob” Lee Hayes

Robert “Bob” Lee Hayes, Sr., age 90 of Dalton, passed away at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison on Friday, January 1, 2016.

Bob was born on June 5, 1925 in Adams, WI the son of Unker and Mildred Hayes. He proudly served his country as a sergeant during World War II in the United States Army & Air Corps. On April 19, 1952 he was united in marriage to Shirley Schonasky in Rockford, IL. Bob owned a snowmobile business in his earlier years and worked for many years at National Rivet in Waupun. He also enjoyed being a Den Leader for Cub Scouts. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, camping and farming.

Bob is survived by his wife Shirley of Dalton; his children, Carol (George) Werla of Loganville, WI, Cindy (Russell) Werth of Markesan and Dennis Hayes of Dalton; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rose, Blanche and Jane, all of Adams, WI; his brother, Bill of Texas and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Robert Jr. in 2013 and his sister June.

Visitation for Bob will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 181 S. Main St. in Markesan, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will immediately follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery, town of Kingston with graveside military honors provided by the Kingston American Legion Post #395.
