Obituary: Gerald J. Marsch

Gerald J. Marsch, age 80, of Horicon, died Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

A memorial gathering will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Horicon on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  A memorial service will follow at church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mark Hasty officiating.

Gerald was born on November 19, 1935 in Horicon, Wisconsin to the late Walter and Lucy (Wild) Marsch.  After graduating from Horicon High School, he enlisted in the US Navy and served for two years.  On July 25, 1959, Gerald was united in marriage with Marlene Johnson at Zion Lutheran Church in Horicon.  He worked at John Deere Horicon Works for many years and retired in 1993.  Gerald served on the Horicon City Council for two terms as an alderman.  One of his favorite pastimes was ice fishing.  Gerald was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Horicon American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene Marsch of Horicon; his daughter, Connie (Dean) Thomas of Markesan; three granddaughters, Jennifer Thomas (Phil Carroll) of Appleton, Rachel (JJ) Schraufnagel of Neenah, and Melissa Thomas (Mike Gnieser) of Green Lake; one great grandson, William Schraufnagel; two brothers, Robert Marsch and David (Mary) Marsch, both of Horicon; four sisters, Joan (Jim) Schaefer of Wisconsin Dells, Sandra (Dick) Sternat of Arizona, Kathy (John) Gaffney of Pewaukee, and Mary (Kevin) Kruezinger of Horicon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ronald Marsch, and a sister, Carolyn Marsch.

Memorials may be made in Gerald J. Marsch’s name to Zion Lutheran Church in Horicon or Hillside Hospice in Beaver Dam.
