"Neither snow, nor rain, nor etc, etc" -- who made up that inspirational phrase? 

It turns out it was "a long time ago on a continent far, far away."  Indeed, it was Herodotus, the Greek historian who was commenting on the fidelity of the Persian mounted postal couriers: "Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night stays these courageous couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds" 

But, Herodotus could have been speaking about the Pony Express . . .
