Rock River Archeological Society Presents Program on The Fur Trade (1600-1840)

The Rock River Archeological Society will be presenting a program by Raymond Glazner on Fur Trade between the years of 1600 and 1840. The program will be held on April 20th at 7:00 p.m. in the lower level of the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center. Mr. Glazner will talk about the Dutch, English and French trappers as well as the American longhunter and the American mountain man. His program will include examples of clothing, equipment and skills of the people who opened the way for the westward expansion of the United States.

Ray Glazner was born and raised in West Central New Jersey in an area inhabited for centuries by the Lenape Indians. The U.S. Continental Troops also spent two winters there and as a result, artifacts were always being found. His personal history includes a wide variety of experiences as follows: he spent 65 years in the Boy Scouts and became an Eagle Scout; he was adopted by a Navajo family from the Navajo Reservation; he holds a BA with a double major in Social Science and Language Arts, and a MA in History; he taught Air Force Survival School; he was a consultant to the Smithsonian Monthly; he has served as an elected town official; and he has mined gold in New Mexico among many other things. Mr. Glazner is a published author, loves to read and maintains a 6,000 volume research library. Ray resides with his wife in Wausau, WI and maintains a full schedule of talking engagements and re-enacting activities.

The program is part of the Rock River Archeology Society scheduled presenters and welcomes the public to all of its programs. Refreshments are enjoyed after the program which is free to the general public. For more information please call Julie Flemming at 920-928-6094 or email julieflemming@yahoo.com. Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center is located at N7725 Hwy 28 between Horicon and Mayville. Please enter through the lower door near the auditorium.
