Obituary: Martin H. Megale

Martin H. Megale, age 84, of Beaver Dam, died Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.

A memorial gathering will be held at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Thursday, May 19, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  A Celebration of Martin’s Life will begin at 11:00 a.m. with John Leiting as celebrant and a luncheon will follow in the Community Room at the funeral home. 

Martin was born on January 15, 1932 in New Rochelle, NY to the late James and Gertrude (Beisgen) Megale.  In 1954, he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Iona College and then served in the United States Army from January 1955 to December of 1956.  Martin taught Floral Design and Horticulture at Gateway Technical Institute in Kenosha before moving to Beaver Dam in 1973.  He was one of the original partners that moved Beaver Floral to its current downtown location.

Martin was a faithful blood donor throughout his life and donated many gallons of blood; he was a universal donor and was called upon by the Red Cross to donate if there was an emergency.  He was very involved in the Beaver Dam community.  Martin was active in the PALS program and volunteered at the Beaver Dam Community Hospital.  He was a loyal member of the Third Street Band through the Senior Center and he acted in more than six plays at the Beaver Dam Community Theater.  Martin was also a lover of dark chocolate.

Survivors include his wife, Sionag Black Megale of Beaver Dam; two children, Brian (Tiffany) Megale of Neenah and Megan Megale of Brookline, MA; two grandchildren, Maxwell Megale and Violet Megale; and a niece, Linda Megale.  Martin was preceded in death by his parents and his brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Charlotte Megale.

If desired, memorials may be made in Martin Megale’s name to American Heart Association.
