Program Leader Ryan Madala-Klug
Class size: 10
$25 for both nights
Auditions can be intimidating, especially intimidating for new directors or new theatre companies. This class will help performers to improve their Audition etiquette, focus, preparation, and ultimately confidence. Through a series of mock auditions and critiques, Program Leader Ryan Madala-Klug will give pointers and work with each individual to create an audition portfolio unique to them, showing off their unique qualities and talents, and give a director’s perspective to the audition process.
Night 1: Mock audition, Sing 32 bars of an uptempo song in the style of the show. Bring clothes in which to dance. Perhaps some cold readings. -- Then, full critique of song choices & cuts, presentation, and everything from the beginning of the audition to the end. Each participant will be given a callback song to work on. We will go over etiquette and suggestions on behaviors during the process. You will hear success stories and horror stories from auditions past.
Night 2: Callbacks. I will cast the "show" based on callbacks. We will then critique the callback process. Next, we will go over the proper audition binder, and learn about what makes a successful mindset for performers. We will go through what directors are looking for.
Overall, each performer will learn through DOING an audition and WATCHING others audition, with critiques for everyone.
These classes are intended for anyone in high school or older. We may hold a special class for younger participants in the future.
Depending on the popularity of these classes, other classes are possible, including but not limited to: "Musical Theatre Performance," "Acting and Stagecraft Basics," and "Advanced Acting Techniques."
