In 1962, JFK created Peace Officer Memorial Day with these words:
"To pay tribute to the law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and to voice our appreciation for all those who currently serve on the front lines of the battle against crime . . . ."
Our brave police officers are willing on a daily basis to put their lives on the line in order to keep thugs, thieves, rapists, and murderers in check. They truly are the sheepdogs that keep the wolves at bay in our society. Unfortunately, our peace officers are under siege. Indeed, the motivation and resolve of ALL OUR BRAVE POLICE OFFICERS have been put into question by the misdeeds of an extremely small subset of police officers.
So, this might be a good time to "THANK THEM FOR THEIR SERVICE."
