Obituary: Roy J. McCallum

Roy J. McCallum, age 81, died on Monday, May 23, 2016 at his home in Horicon.

The visitation will be at St. Stephen Ev. Lutheran Church in Horicon on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. There will also be a visitation at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. The funeral service will follow at the church on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dan Seehafer officiating. Burial will be at North Burnett Cemetery.

Roy J. McCallum was born on September 7, 1934 to Donald and Edna (Davis) McCallum. On October 6, 1956 he was united in marriage with Darlene Steinbach in the Town of Trenton, Dodge County, Wisconsin. Following their marriage, they resided in Beaver Dam, then moved to Horicon where they have lived for the past 58 years.

Roy worked for Dodge County Dairy Testing Association as a milk tester. He then worked for Moormans Manufacturing where he worked as a salesman. Roy and Darlene started McCallum Feed and Supply in Horicon in 1965 and in 2000 they expanded, adding Pets Expo. He was a dealer for Starline, Jamesway, Val Metal, Jung Seeds, Wayne Feeds and Kent Feeds, just to name a few.

Roy served as a chairperson for the Town of Oak Grove for 30 years and served as County Board Chair for Dodge County. He was a member of Kiwanis and served as president. Roy was a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of North Burnett and attended St. Stephen Ev. Lutheran Church in Horicon. 

Roy loved to show off his Model-T truck and drove his ’67 Ford Galaxy convertible in numerous parades. He loved farming and being a salesman. He made a countless number of friends throughout his years selling product to farmers. For over 50 years, Roy also would weigh animals and have a tent exhibit at the Dodge County Fair. He loved spending time with his family and holding his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors are his wife, Darlene McCallum of Horicon; six children, Vicky Arndt of Watertown, Becky (John) Stark of Columbus, Mark McCallum of Beaver Dam, Donald (Colleen) McCallum of Horicon, Marni (David) Lemmenes of Waupun, and Julie (Curtis) Patrouille of Waupun; fifteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Blanche McCallum; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Dorothy (Edgar) Wetzel, Doris (Kenneth) Ziebell, Archie McCallum, Betty (James) Reilly; and son-in-law, Richard Arndt.

The family would like to thank Rainbow Hospice as well as Mary Beth, Amy, and Colleen with Quality Home Care for all of the exceptional care that was given to Roy.
