Obituary: Grace M. Oberts

Grace M. Oberts, age 96, of Beaver Dam, died Friday, July 8, 2016 at Charleston Memory Care in Beaver Dam.

Visitation for Grace will be at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:50 a.m.  A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at church on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with Grace’s son, Fr. David P. Oberts, officiating.  Burial will be at Bethany Cemetery in the Town of Calamus, Dodge County, Wisconsin.

Grace Mary Daane was born on November 29, 1919 in Arpin, Wisconsin to the late Nicholas and Mary (Dorst) Daane.  She graduated from Madison East High School and also attended the University of Madison.  On October 6, 1939, she was united in marriage with David Oberts in Beaver Dam; he preceded Grace in death in 1996.  Grace loved her family and she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  Grace enjoyed reading, cooking, quilting, sewing, gardening, Brewer baseball, and UW football.  Grace was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Parish in Beaver Dam.

Survivors include three daughters, Janene (Lawrence) Winkler of Golden, CO, Dolores Steers of Columbus, and Shirley (Larry) Smith of Belvadere, IL; three sons, Fr. David Oberts of Rice Lake, Charles (Leslie) Oberts of Maryland, and Thomas (Debra) Oberts of San Diego, CA; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.  Grace was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Michael in 2000; five sisters, and one brother.
