Beaver Dam Unified School District will host the Youth Mental Health First Aid Course created by the National Council for Behavioral Health on Thursday, August 11th from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The training course and materials will be provided by the Berlin Area School District through the “Now Is the Time – Project AWARE” Grant and sponsored in part by the Psychiatric Associates of Beaver Dam – a service of Agnesian HealthCare. Parents, teachers, religious leaders, community members or anyone who regularly interacts with adolescent youth will benefit the most from attending this course.

The 8-hour course will train participants to identify, understand and intervene with youth ages 12-18 experiencing a mental health crisis or problem and discusses how to distinguish typical adolescent development from a mental health issue. The course also focuses on challenging the stigma and stereotypes surrounding mental illness. Prior course feedback reported that the Youth Mental Health First Aid course “corrected some myths about mental health” and was “excellent and eye-opening”.

Registration for this event is FREE. Register online at www.bdusd.org/district/studentservices.cfm or by calling the Beaver Dam Unified School District’s Educational Services Center at 920-885-7300 x2134. A light lunch and beverages will be provided.
