Obituary: Leo G. Wehner

Leo G. Wehner, 89, of Beaver Dam passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.

Leo was born the son of Joseph and Mabel (Shiradelly) Wehner on November 1, 1926 in Sandwich, IL.  Leo moved to the south side of Beaver Dam at an early age where he attended school and made lifelong friends.  He served his country in U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He also served with the Merchant Marines throughout the Great Lakes.  Early in his career, he worked at a number of places and then was employed with Van Brunt of Horicon (now John Deere) for 12 years.  Later, he was employed with Kirsh Foundry in Beaver Dam for 30 years until his retirement in the fall of 1991.  On June 30, 1962, Leo married his wife Dawn Braun.

Leo was a member of the John E. Miller American Legion Post #146 of Beaver Dam.  Leo enjoyed bowling, playing cards, helping his wife with her craft shows and going to the casinos every once in a while.  He especially enjoyed reading his newspapers.  Leo appreciated traveling throughout the United States with his family.  

Leo is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dawn of Beaver Dam; his children: Jeff (Marki) Wehner of Minnesota Junction and Julie (Mike) Lucko of Tomahawk; his grandchildren: Stephanie (Tim) Wehner of Waterloo, IA, Jonathan Wehner of Beaver Dam, and Joshua (Codie) Wehner of Juneau; his brothers and sisters-in-law: Shirley Braun of Osceola, WI, Dwayne (Carol) Braun of Beaver Dam, Janice Helmer of Beaver Dam, John (Bev) Braun of Osceola, Donna Jensen of Mayville, Lila Bahls of Beaver Dam, Darryl Braun of Iron Ridge, Norman (Jean) Braun of Friendship, Vaughn (Judy) Braun of Juneau, Dan (Janet) Braun of Randolph, Marylin Braun of Mayville, Pam Braun and Charlene Selsing of Hartford; and further survived by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Leonard; his father and mother-in-law, Clarence and Martha Braun Sr.; his brothers and sisters-in-law: Clarence (Betty) Braun Jr., Charles Braun, Carolyn Braun, Ken Helmer, Ronald Jensen, Jim Bahls, LuAnn Braun, and Tom Braun.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam.  A visitation will also be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.  The Beaver Dam American Legion will gather at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home to pay their respects.  Interment will take place at Highland Memory Gardens, township of Trenton with military honors conducted by the Beaver Dam American Legion.  

Memorials may be directed to the St. Katharine Drexel School in Beaver Dam.
