Obituary: Robert J Hurckman

Robert J Hurckman, 91, of Columbus passed away at the Larson House in Columbus on Tuesday, October 11, 2016. 

He was born on May 31, 1925 to Fred and Helen (Wodill) Hurckman. He served in the United States Army in WWII in Italy where he earned the bronze star and 2 purple heart medals. On return he married Eileen Peters on July 19, 1946 at Zion Lutheran Church in Columbus. He farmed with his wife in the Waterloo and Reeseville areas and then worked at Mosinee Paper in Columbus until his retirement. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Columbus and previously the VFW post in Columbus. Robert enjoyed watching slow-pitch, baseball, gardening and taking care of their yard. 

He is survived by his children Fredrick (Patricia) Hurckman of Randolph, Susan (David) Etter of Arkdale, and Ronald (Cheryl) Hurckman of Columbus; seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; his sisters: Thelma (Bernard) Dykstra, Elaine (Edward) Dykstra, and Janice McCormick Carson of Tuttle Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eileen in January of 2016, his grandsons: Michael Hurckman and Gregory Etter, siblings: Eugene Hurckman, Geraldine Jaehnke, Helen Kuhn and Dorothy Gehrke.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 14, 2016 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Columbus.  The Rev. Robert Wilke will officiate.  A visitation will also be held on Friday, October 14th from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church.  Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Columbus with military honors to be conducted.
