Robert L. Smith, 71, of Oshkosh passed away on Monday, October 10, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh.  

A visitation will be held on Monday, October 17, 2016 from 10 a.m. until a time of remembrance to begin at 11 a.m. at the Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam.  Interment will take place at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, WI where military honors will be conducted.

Robert was born the son of Leo and Helma (Loomans) Smith on August 24, 1945 in Fond du Lac.  He was a 1963 graduate of Beaver Dam High School and later from Business School at UW-Madison.  He was employed as an accountant during his working career.  Robert was married to Linda C. Vander Werff on January 8, 1972.  

Robert served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he was awarded a Commendation Medal for superior duty. He was a past member of the Waupun American Legion where he served as past commander.  Robert was an avid Wisconsin sports fan and loved collecting memorabilia.  He was loved by his family, friends, and his cats: Pooh Bear, Kizzy, and Snickers.  He will be missed.

Robert is survived by his two sons: Todd and Ryan (special lady friend, Sue Larson) Smith of Oshkosh; his granddaughters: Laurelann and Lydia Smith; his brother, Ron Smith of Beaver Dam; as well as other relatives and friends.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Linda in 2015, and his brother, Dave Smith in 2010.
