What better way to kick off Thanksgiving, than to get up early and go for a run with some community friends! Come to Watertown on Thursday, November 24 for The 5th Annual Run Turkey Run. It’s a 5K run/walk event. The race begins at 9 a.m. from the Upper Pavilion of Riverside Park. The route then takes you through downtown Watertown on Main Street and loops back to the start. This is a fun way to burn a few calories before chowing down Thanksgiving Dinner!

What is a 5k? It’s 5000 meters. It’s 400 calories burned. It’s a 15-40 minute run or 45-60 minute walk. It’s $30 to a local charity. (That’s right, thanks to wonderful sponsor support, 100% of your registration fee goes to charity!). Since 2012, over $45,000 has been donated to local charities. $43,500 has gone to Watertown Family Aid and $2500 to to the Watertown Parks and Recreation Department for the Girls on the Run program.

With over 950 participants in 2015 The Run Turkey Run has continued to be the largest charity fitness event in Watertown. It currently consists of a 5k Race (The Run Turkey Run), a 5k Walk (The Walk Turkey Walk), and a 1k Kids Run (Trotter’s 1k Fun Run) which will include both Trotter and Santa running alongside the kids. The kids run will not start until after the final walker has crossed the finish line so we’ll ensure you’re back in time to cheer them on.

Awards will be given to the top three males and females along with the top three in each age division. Each participant will receive a long sleeve tee shirt, a safe and well marked course and fun and music during and after the race.

Food, family, and fitness make Thanksgiving a very special holiday. Join over 1000 runners and walkers on Thanksgiving morning for a beautiful run/walk down Watertown’s Main Street.
