Obituary: George W. Koerner

George W. Koerner, 63, of the town of Westford died unexpectedly on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at his home.

A memorial service for George will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at Trinity Church United Methodist, 308 Oneida Street, Beaver Dam with the Rev. Jeffery Nicholas officiating.  A visitation will be held prior from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. also at the church. A lunch will be served immediately following the memorial service at the church.  Inurnment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Beaver Dam.

George was born the son of Wilbert C. and Myrtle M. (Wagner) Koerner on October 9, 1953 in Beaver Dam.  George was a 1971 graduate of Beaver Dam High School.  He continued his education at UW Platteville studying Agricultural Economic and received his BS in 1975 and MS in 1977.  George had been employed by the US Department of Agriculture for 32 years, with the Dairy Market News.  He worked on providing marketing and other information to members of the cheese manufacturing and marketing companies throughout the country.  George retired from this work and became a gentleman farmer, crop farming on the family farm in the town of Westford.  

George was a very active member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.  He was on the Board of Trustees and was currently serving as the secretary, actively working to support the fraternity in Platteville.  He was an active member of Trinity Church United Methodist where he served as an usher, attended bible study, was a trustee and on the finance committee.  George was a huge Wisconsin Badger Fan attending many football, basketball and hockey games.  He was also a member of United Cooperative in Beaver Dam.

George is survived by his sisters Karen (Dan) Smith, Kristine Koerner and his brother Richard Koerner; four step sister: Linda (Dave) Pollesch, Judy (Dave) Van Swol, Emily Terpstra, Mari (Roger) Kuhnle; four step brothers: Howard (Sandy) Kooiman, Mert (Laurie) Kooiman, Dave (Evonne) Kooiman and Jerry (Mari Beth) Kooiman.  He was also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his step mother Gladys Kooiman Koerner.

Memorial donations in George’s name may be made to Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity or to Trinity Church United Methodist in Beaver Dam.
