Obituary: Erma A. Freber

Erma A. Freber, age 92, of Beaver Dam, died Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Prairie Ridge Assisted Living in Beaver Dam.

Vistation for Erma will be at Salem Lutheran Church on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 from 12:00 Noon to 12:50 PM.  Funeral services will follow at church on Tuesday beginning at 1:00 PM with Rev. Paul Vander Galien officiating.  Burial will be at Lowell Cemetery.

Erma was born on August 13, 1924 in Alderly, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Alex and Alma (Davis) Schneider.  On May 21, 1949, she was united in marriage with Alton A. Freber at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Juneau.  During World War II, Erma contributed to the war effort by working at defense plants in Waukesha as a drill press operator and a lathe operator.  After the war, she worked at the Carnation plant in Oconomowoc.  In Erma’s younger years, hunting pheasants with her dog Topsy gave her much pleasure.  She also enjoyed reading and doing puzzles.  Erma was a life-long member of Salem Lutheran Church in Lowell where she had been active with the Ladies Aid.

Survivors include her three sons, David (Karen) Freber of Bowler, Edwin “Butch” Freber of Fall River, and Larry (Marion) Freber of Beaver Dam; six grandchildren, Kevin (Robyne) Freber, Russell (Christine) Freber, Mark (Heather) Freber, Julie (Garry) Wylesky, Dawn (Dennis) Schmidt, and Valerie (Robert) Axelsen; nine great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.  Erma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, Alton Freber; her twin brothers, Harold and Alvin Schneider; and a daughter-in-law, Donna Freber.

If desired, memorials may be made in Erma Freber’s name to Salem Lutheran Church in Lowell.
