Joyce E. Monahan, 83, of Beaver Dam passed away in her husband’s loving arms on Monday, November 21, 2016.  She has joined her son, Greg in heaven and will live in eternity next to our dear Lord.

Joyce was born the daughter of Edward and Martha (Brown) Swanke on June 30, 1933 in Berlin, WI.  She was a graduate of Berlin High School.  Joyce was married to Philip Monahan on February 11, 1950 in Berlin, WI.  Joyce along with her husband, Phil owned and operated Pre Funeral Services both in funerals and cemeteries in Iowa for many years.  Later, they owned and operated Beaver Dam Monuments.

Joyce was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Beaver Dam.  She enjoyed her flower gardens and making pies.  Joyce made sure to find time for tea and wine.  She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and watching her great-grandson play football.  With a heart larger than her body, a smile taller than a building and eyes as blue as the ocean, she will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Joyce is survived by her husband and best friend, Phil of Beaver Dam; her daughter, Peggy (Gary) Broome of Beaver Dam; her four grandchildren: Tara Cordes of Madison, Erin Broome of Beaver Dam, Jennifer (Jonathon) Kelly and Jill Monahan both of Pittsburg, PA; her great-grandchildren: R.J. Shelton of Beaver Dam, Electra Cordes of Madison, and Gregory Kelly, Addy Kelly and Bo Kelly all of Pittsburg; her sister, Delores Manthey of Milwaukee; her brother, Floyd (Joanne) Swanke of West Bend; her daughter-in-law, Janice (Lee) Roberts of Pittsburg; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Gregory Monahan; her brothers: Rueben, Vernon, Palmer and Foster; her sisters: Beatrice Beck and Lila Schwandt; and her grandson-in-law, Holger Cordes.

A visitation will be held on Monday, November 28, 2016 at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in Beaver Dam from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 12 p.m. (noon).  The Rev. Michael Erwin will officiate.  Entombment will take place at Lake View Memorial Park, Oshkosh the following day.
