Thomas P. Berndt
Thomas P. Berndt, 64, of Burnett, WI passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 7th, 2016 after a brief battle with cancer.
Tom was born on February 22, 1952; the third son of Raymond J. Berndt and Elizabeth (Flossy) Berndt; in Waupun, WI. Tom married his beloved wife Lois (Schroeder) on October 1, 1977 in Beaver Dam, WI.
Tom served two years of active duty in the U.S. Army while stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. Tom was employed by Home Contractors in Waupun, WI before branching out and working as a self-employed carpenter with his business partner and friend Kenny Strauss. Tom felt very fortunate to have a job that he loved and looked forward to going to each day. He wanted to personally thank all of his customers over the years for their business, and he appreciated the opportunity to build relationships with all of them.
Tom took great pride in his family and cherished his time spent with them, especially his grandchildren Alexis, Jude, and Everett. Tom was a lover of nature; he enjoyed fishing, gardening, golfing, and flying kites with his grandchildren. He was a gifted painter and loved vintage aircraft.
Tom is survived by Lois, his loving wife of 39 years; daughters Julie of Madison, WI and Allison (Brad) Funk with grandchildren Alexis, Jude, and Everett Funk of Fishers, IN; brothers Gerald “Butch” (Evie) of Markesan, WI; Fred of Union Grove, WI; Ray Jr. of Waupun, WI; and Jon (Nancy) of Clyman, WI; brother-in-law Glen (Wanda) Schroeder of Oak Creek, WI; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
