Gerald Wesley Bohn, of Columbus, passed away surrounded by his family in his home on Sunday, December 25, 2016. During his life, he proved that nothing less than hard work and honesty gave him all he needed. His passion was being a mechanic. He loved to tinker in his garage working on anything from large diesel engines to small motors. Every project was a challenge worth learning, a job to be proud of and he quickly became well-known and appreciated throughout the area for his skills and talents.

Gerry found the love of his life Dona (Helmer) while in high school. His brother Darwin told tales on how they were immediately inseparable and their love for each other undeniable. They were married on April 5, 1969 at First Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. They grew to a family of five with the addition of their three children, Melissa (Dave) Henning, Troy (Nicole) Bohn and Brenda Freemyer. The family then grew with the births of his grandchildren, Brandon Spiegel, Natalie Freemyer and Peyton Bohn, and later with his great-grandsons, Landon and Dominick Spiegel, and what a proud grandfather he was!

A man of few words, you knew when Gerry spoke that his words held great meaning. When he looked at you, there was no question what he was thinking. While spending time with him, you truly knew his love, friendship and desire to make you feel important and secure in his presence.

Gerry’s passing was preceded by his father Wesley, mother Valborg (Rostad), his sister Jacqueline and many other loved ones who will have open arms to greet him and take care of him until the day we will all be together again.

A memorial gathering for Gerry will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Faith Lutheran Church, 120 Faith Dr., Columbus from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 12:00 p.m. (noon) Rev. Bob Moberg will officiate. Inurnment will take place at Doylestown Cemetery at a later date.
