Obituary: Gerald “Butch” R. Berndt

Gerald “Butch” R. Berndt, age 76 of Marquette, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2016 at the Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac.

Butch was born on May 12, 1940 in Waupun, the son of Raymond and Elizabeth “Flossy” (Tetzlaff) Berndt. In 1958, he graduated from Waupun High School. Butch proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1958-60 while stationed in Germany, France and Italy. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Doctor and worked for Home Contractors in Waupun and Markesan, Radford Company in Oshkosh, Milliken Millwork in West Bend and McMahon Company in Jackson. Butch will fondly be remembered for his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. 

Butch is survived by his wife, Evelyn Berndt of Marquette; his children, Pamela Dolata, Eric Berndt and Clint Berndt; his grandchildren, Amanda (Andy) Swinford, Sarah (Brandon) Kovalaske and Kelby Dolata; great-grandchild, Weylon Swinford; brothers, Fred Berndt of Union Grove, Ray Berndt of Waupun, Jon (Nancy) Berndt of Clyman; sister-in-law, Lois Berndt of Burnett; and further survived by other relatives and friends.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Art and Grace Doctor; his first wife, Esther; his brother, Tom Berndt and other relatives.

A memorial gathering and inurnment at Grand View Cemetery will take place at a later date.
