Obituary: John Francis Schulz

John Francis Schulz, age 83 of Randolph, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at the Golden Living Center – Continental Manor in Randolph with his family by his side.

The son of Ben and Frances (Quade) Schulz, John was born on September 21, 1933 in the family farmhouse where he spent his married life of 60 years. He graduated from Markesan High School in 1951 and then went on to UW Farm Short Course. After graduating, he proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953-55. He was stationed in Korea and Guam. On April 1, 1956, he married Verla Ferge. He then farmed on the family farm and became an A.I. Technician for 45 years. After his health failed, he had to retire.

John enjoyed his grandchildren’s sports events, bowling and traveling. The highlight of his life was his trip to Washington DC with his granddaughter Margo on the Badger Honor Flight. He said he was king for a day. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Manchester.

John is survived by his wife, Verla; his daughter, Kim (John) Slinger; his son, Kirk (Cindy) Schulz; five grandchildren, Margo (Richie) Plath, Cody (Teresa) Floeter, Jayme (Sara) Schulz, Dawson Schulz and Dillin Schulz; three great-granddaughters, Greylyn Plath, Mara Floeter and Harper Floeter; sister-in-law, Donna Schulz; sister-in-law, Betty (Ralph) Mielke; and further survived by cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; maternal and paternal grandparents; in-laws, Emery and Angeline Ferge; sister, Mary Lou (Guenther) Muehlenhaupt; brother, Wesley Schulz and granddaughter, Brittany (Floeter) Quade.

Visitation for John will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 4 – 7 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 181 S. Main St., Markesan. Visitation will also be held prior to the service at church on Friday, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

A funeral service for John will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, W3377 Main St., Manchester with Rev. Michael Plagenz officiating. Interment with graveside military honors will take place at Lake Maria Cemetery, town of Manchester.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Golden Living Center and the Hillside Hospice staff for all the loving care given to John.
