Brush up on your favorite trivia board games, assemble your team, and prepare to wow the audience with your knowledge at the March 18, 2017, Meat Animal Sale Livestock Trivia Night. The popular fundraiser will help raise money for new gates in the pig barns during the Dodge County Fair.
“Our swine pens are 52 years old,” notes trivia-night co-chair, Eric Salmi. “They are beyond patching and fixing. The bases of the pens are starting to rot off at ground level. To keep the exhibitors, visitors, and animals safe during the fair; we’re raising money to replace these pens prior to the start of the fair this year.”
To redo the show ring and the entire barn, the cost will total about $40,000. Since this investment will benefit the general public, as well as the youth exhibitors at the fair, everyone is invited and welcome to participate in fundraising efforts.
The trivia committee is accepting eight-person-team registrations for the fundraiser at $10 per person or $80 per team. “There will be 10 rounds of trivia with 10 different questions per round,” noted Salmi. “There will also be a tie-braker round.” First, second, and third place will receive monetary awards “that will make it worth while for you to come in as a top-three team.” Salmi went on to note, “The best thing a team can do is mix and match their team members between young and old ages to get the best bang and try to get first place.”
Trivia night will take place at Dodgeland High School, Juneau. Doors open at 5 p.m. on the 18th and trivia starts at 7 p.m. with WXRO’s on-air personality, Lezli Young, as the MC. If trivia is not your game, though, the committee has other opportunities for you to support the cause. “We’ll have a raffle, 50/50 raffle, silent-auction items, and door prizes for those participating. There will also be food catered by Turner Hall in Watertown until it’s gone. Everything should wrap up at about 10 p.m.”
Raffle items will include two pigs raffled off as four halves, donated by the Dodge County Pork Producers -- Country Meat Cutters, Reeseville, and Detjens Northern Trail Meats, Watertown, have donated the processing of all four halves, too. “We have items from the Timber Rattlers; Madison Mallards; oil changes from Grinwald Ford, Watertown; one fall house spraying from Bug Blasters; four whole pork loins donated by Rich Doman of Turner Hall in Watertown; a weekend pass to AmericInn Lodge and Suites of Beaver Dam; United Cooperative gift certificates; Holz GMC items; and various baskets from $25 to $125 in value featuring movie nights, animal care, cleaning products, and more.” Popcorn donated by Tietz Family Farms, Watertown, will be for sale as a fundraiser and available as raffle items.
