Obituary: Larry W. Scheier

Larry W. Scheier, age 67 of Beaver Dam, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Damafter fighting a courageous battle with cancer.

Larry was born on July 17, 1949 at Ripon Hospital in Fond du Lac County, the son of Lawrence and Gertrude (Lubeck) Scheier. During most of his childhood, he was raised by his grandparents, Earl and Mabel (Marwitz) Scheier. Larry attended Markesan High School and shortly thereafter enlisted in the United States Army and served his country in Vietnam War earning service medals, including the Purple Heart. He was employed by Pillsbury/Green Giant and then at Kraft in Beaver Dam for many years until retirement. He was a lifetime member of the Clarence Keske VFW Post 1163. An avid sports fan, Larry enjoyed bowling in his earlier years, cheering on the Green Bay Packers and had great memories of having shared a bus trip with his close friends to a Brewers game. He enjoyed country music, especially David Allan Coe’s “You Never Even Called Me by My Name”.

Larry is survived by his siblings, Carlton Scheier of Kingston, Darlene (Robert) Nelson of Algoma, Robert Scheier of Tomah, Tim Scheier of Ripon, Linda Scheier of Santa Rosa, CA and Jeff Sykes of Madison; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, special friends Jerra Gradel, Corky Falbe and other close friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and other relatives.

A memorial gathering for Larry will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Jonathan Biffert will officiate. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Waupaca. 

Memorials in Larry’s name may be directed to Clarence Keske VFW Post 1163, 300 Beichl Ave., Beaver Dam or Hillside Hospice, 707 S. University Ave., Beaver Dam.
