Obituary: Michael “Pete” S. Franke

Michael “Pete” S. Franke, age 75 of Beaver Dam, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

Pete was born on January 27, 1942 in Watertown, the son of Edgar and Alice (Meitner) Franke.  On October 26, 1968, he was united in marriage to Elaine Schmidt at St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam.  He worked for several years at Green Giant and later at WMFB in Beaver Dam.

Pete enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and watching the Milwaukee Brewers. He was a charter member of the Pumpkin Center Sportsman’s Club, where he enjoyed trapshooting for many years.

Pete is survived by his wife, Elaine of Beaver Dam; sisters-in-law, Lois Ebert of Beaver Dam, Darlene (Richard) Sack of Juneau, Kristine (Michael) Erdmann of Beaver Dam; brother-in-law, Steven (Mary) Schmidt of Madison; and further survived by his close friend Charlie Frank along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Barbara (Duane) Klapper, along with other relatives.

A Funeral Service for Pete will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam at 1:00 p.m with Chaplain Dennis Richards officiating. Visitation will also take place at Cornerstone on Friday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Beaver Dam. 

If desired, memorials in Pete’s name may be directed to the American Heart Association, Hillside Hospice or to the charity of one’s choice.
