Matthew J. Huelsman, 43, passed away on May 25, 2017 after a yearlong battle with gastric cancer.

The visitation will be at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. There will also be a visitation at Good Shephard Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will follow at the church on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Collin Vanderhoof officiating.

Matt was born on April 24, 1974, the son of Terry and Linda (Koenigs) Huelsman in Fond du Lac, WI.  Matt graduated from Winnebago Lutheran Academy in 1992 and later from Fox Valley Technical College with an Associate’s Degree in police science in 1996.

On September 28, 1996, he married the love of his life, Jennifer (Schultz).  Matt and Jenny met when they were teenagers and have been inseparable ever since.  Throughout their marriage, they built a life that included lots of blessings, particularly their three children.  Matt was incredibly proud to be their dad. He enjoyed watching and participating in all their events, whether it was cheering at a football game, watching a dance competition, or attending music concerts. He volunteered to help in their schools as much as he was able.  There are very few field trips that he did not attend as a chaperone with his children. Matt worked for the past 20 years at the Waupun Correctional Institute, most recently as a correctional sergeant, where he was known as “Fluffy.” He was honored to work alongside his brother and sister officers.

Matt enjoyed traveling and was always up for a new location.  His last vacation was to Ocho Rios, Jamaica in March of 2017.  He was a huge sci fi fan and some of the vacations included attending Comic Con conventions.  Matt’s unbelievable memory for useless and obscure facts never ceased to amaze others.  He was also a gifted baker.  He made and decorated birthday cakes for anyone that asked.  His kids always had the most creative cakes at their special occasions.   Our Christmas spread of baked goods was plentiful and delicious. His love for Christmas music was well-known.  His favorite was “Blue Christmas” by Elvis.

Matt is survived by his devoted wife Jenny of Beaver Dam, his three fantastic children: Lexi (fiance Kyle Antholt), Mason and Ella all at home, his parents, Terry and Linda Huelsman of Ripon, his brother by choice, Joshua (Trish) Flom of Peshtigo, and one sister, Amy (Casey) Fluno of Nekoosa.  He is also survived by his mother and father-in-law, Barb and Larry Schultz of Markesan, in-laws Connie (Steve) Dues of Racine, Dan Schultz of Appleton, Katie (Tony) Coffey of Lisbon, his nieces/nephews: Madilyn, Emma, Spencer, Sydney and Johnny, and many other family and friends.
