Obituary: Eugene “Gene” L. Kamrath

Eugene “Gene” L. Kamrath, age 78 of Beaver Dam, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Charleston House Memory Care in Beaver Dam after a short battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Gene was born on September 5, 1938 in Beaver Dam, the son of Edgar and Mildred (Mattox) Kamrath. He graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1956. He worked many years at Kamrath’s and also as a radio announcer in Beaver Dam, Waupun, Watertown and Sauk City. He later worked at the Daily Citizen. He had a love for aviation and flying planes. He went on to get his pilot’s license and spent a lot of time at the Juneau Airport. 

He was united in marriage to Shirley Olson in 1999, who survives him along with three step-children, Don of Beloit, Richard (Colleen) of Springfield, GA and Pam (Greg) Lehr of Clyman; seven step-grandchildren; 17 step-great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Don and other relatives.

In honoring Gene’s wishes, private family services will be held.
