Obituary: James R. Manke

James R. Manke, 93, of Columbus passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the Columbus Community Hospital.

A visitation will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017 from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at the Koepsell-Zeidler Funeral Home in Columbus.  The Rev. Tim Schwartz will officiate.  Interment take place at Hillside Cemetery in Columbus.

James was born on June 6, 1924 to Herman and Nettie (Schmidt) Manke in the township of Arlington, Wisconsin.  On June 11, 1950, he was united in marriage to Rachel H. Voigt at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Columbus.

James was a lifelong farmer.  He enjoyed attending farm shows, reading and traveling, especially to Alaska.  He was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Columbus.  

James will be remembered for having a kind soul and he never spoke a bad word about anyone.  James loved his family dearly.

James is survived by his children: David Manke of Waupun; Phillip (Susan Oliver) Manke of Anchorage, Alaska, Peter Manke of Columbus, and Lois (Mark) Reese of Fort Wayne, Indiana; his grandsons: Bryan (Mignon) Reese of North Carolina and Daniel Reese of Fort Wayne; his granddaughter Megan Reese of Fort Wayne; his great granddaughter, Lily.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rachel in 2007, his daughter Mary Manke; his brothers: Herbert, Raymond, Herman, and his sister Marian Dobratz.

Memorial donations may be directed to Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Columbus.
