Obituary: Ruby I. Roeder

Ruby I. Roeder, 103, of Beaver Dam passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Charleston House in Beaver Dam.

Ruby was born the daughter of Herman and Minnie (Zimmerman) Roeder on October 4, 1913 in Manchester, WI.  She was a graduate of Markesan High School and Oshkosh State College.  She later graduated from the University of Illinois Library School – Gregg Business College in Chicago.  Ruby was first employed as a secretary with an insurance agency in Chicago.  Afterwards, she continued her career as a commercial teacher at Thorp High School.  Then for 31 years, Ruby was director of the Williams Free Library in Beaver Dam until her retirement in 1979.  Her love of reading and travel continued throughout her  life.

Ruby was active in the Wisconsin Library Association, the American Association of University Women, the Beaver Dam Woman’s Club, and the Women’s Affiliate of the Chamber of Commerce.  Ruby served on the board of directors for the Dodge County Concert Association.  

Ruby was a member of St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam.  She was active in the Mission Aid Society, the OWLS (Organization of WELS Lutheran Seniors), and worked in the church library.  For her 100thbirthday, she was grand marshal for the Beaver Dam Holiday Parade in 2013.  

Ruby is survived by her three nieces: Linda Roeder, Lana (Michael) Feller, and Lori (Peter) D’Ostuni; and their children: Christopher, Amanda, Matthew, and Brian Feller, and Daniel and Madison D’Ostuni; other relatives and friends.  

She was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers: Clarence and Roy (Arlene) Roeder.

A visitation will be held at St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam on Friday, August 11, 2017 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m.  Rev. Philip Heyer will officiate.  Interment will take place at Markesan Memorial Cemetery in Markesan.

Memorials may be directed to St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam or to the Beaver Dam Community Library.
