Obituary: John A. Sheridan, age 84

John A. Sheridan, 84, of Beaver Dam and formerly of Chicago, IL passed awaypeacefully on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 due to Alzheimer’s disease at the Remembrance Home in Beaver Dam. The “Long Goodbyeâ€ù has come to an end.

John Andrew was born on September 5, 1933 the son of Kenneth A. and Catherine “Kayâ€ù (Wilson) Sheridan in Chicago, IL.  On December 12, 1992, he was married to Bridget M. Hickey in Chicago, IL.

As a consultant in the field of employee labor relations, John was a nationally recognized pioneer and innovator. He worked with dozens of employers in almostevery industry, helping them to communicate more effectively with their employees and to create a more satisfying work environment. 

He is survived by his wife Bridget of Beaver Dam; his four children: Kevin Sheridan of Chicago, IL, Leslie Sheridan of California, Kelly Sheridan of Chicago, IL and Lynne (Gene Jimenez) Sheridan of California; and his grandchildren: Hannah, Morgan, Brendan, Charlie and Caroline. John loved and treated the Vogt children, Shayne (Michael) Reilly, Jeff (Sarah) Vogt, Jim (Rosemary) Vogt and Meg (Deb Bridges) Vogt, as if they were his own.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Elizabeth.

A special thank you to Kathy Bates, Brenda Voigt and the wonderful caregivers at the Remembrance Home.  Their advice, comfort and humor were invaluable to John and Bridget throughout this journey.  In addition, those of you who knew John can only imagine the singing and humor he provided them. Also, gratitude and thanks to Bridget’s parents, siblings and their spouses, nieces and nephews for their continued dedication, love and support throughout the years. We are very grateful for the special life long bond he shared with his cousin Patricia (Sheridan) Flynn.

A private celebration of his life will be held at a later date. 

Memorial donations in John’s name may be made to the Remembrance Home, 1810 N. Spring St., Beaver Dam or to Mount Carmel High School, Mount Carmel Educational Foundation, Inc., 6410 S. Dante Avenue, Chicago, IL  60637.
