A Wayland Players Theatrical Production

“Zorro” will be performed by the Wayland Academy Players, April 16 and 17 at 7:00 p.m. and on Sunday, April 19 at 2 p.m. in the Lindsay Auditorium at Wayland Academy; 101 N. University Avenue, Beaver Dam. Wayland’s production is directed by English teacher Martha Kesler.

The play is based on the Zorro novels written by author Johnston McCulley. It was adapted for the stage by James Rana, an award winning writer-author, and had its world premiere in 2014 at the East Lynne Theater in Cape May, NJ. Wayland’s production will be the first high school production of this theatrical work.

Wayland senior, Madison Jewell of Beaver Dam, is the assistant director for the production. In her notes on the production, Jewell reflected on the theme of stealing from the rich and giving to the poor that runs through so many stories, including this one, but that Zorro also comes equipped “with fast paced sword combat and just a touch of campy flair.”

The titular role will be performed by Wayland senior Robert Bachmann. Kesler noted that in addition to his acting performance, Bachmann played a key role in designing and constructing the majority of the set that audiences will see this week.

The performance is open to the public. General admission is $7.00 per person; free for students and seniors. For more information contact Martha Kesler at
