Obituary – Milner, Lewis

Lewis E. Milner, age 86, of Horicon died on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.

The visitation will be at Murray Funeral Home in Horicon on Friday, October 4, 2013 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The funeral service will follow at the funeral home on Friday with Rev. Paul Hudson officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Beaver Dam with military honors provided by the Horicon American Legion Post #157.

Lewis Edmund Milner was born at home on March 13, 1927 in rural Aledo, Illinois to Charlie and Edythe (Davis) Milner. He was a 1945 graduate of Seaton High School. After graduation, Lewis worked at the Monmouth Airport where he learned to fly. Lewis enlisted in the United States Marines during World War II and spent seven months in China. He was proud to be on the first Badger Honor Flight. After his discharge from the military, he moved to Beaver Dam and did crop dusting for eight years and flew a stearman plane. Lewis was united in marriage with Edith Canniff on September 25, 1954 in Dubuque, Iowa. He started Lewie’s Garage in Beaver Dam and later operated the Texaco Station in Horicon for 27 years. Lewis was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Horicon and a member of the Horicon American Legion.

Survivors are his brother, Larry (Donna) Milner of West Liberty, IA; sisters, Dariel Milner of Galesburg, IL, Gloria (Wilburt) Swihart of Arnold, CA, and Shirley (Dale) Tornquist of New Windsor, IL; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dale and Ioma Canniff of Kerrville, TX; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2004; brother, Charles Milner; and sisters, Ilah Logsdon and Mary Brown.
