Earl Wayne Roberts, age 78 of Beaver Dam, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Hillside Manor surrounded by his family.

Earl was born on June 21, 1935 in Portage, WI to Hugh and Theresa (nee Arndt) Roberts of Randolph. He was raised on the family farm and attended school in Randolph, graduating from high school in 1953. Earl married Joan Hinz on June 5, 1954.

Earl enlisted in the Army in 1954 and served in Germany for two years. Upon returning home, he and his brother Hugh formed Roberts Brothers Painting. Over the decades, the Roberts brothers painted thousands of houses and barns throughout Wisconsin. Eventually, Earl’s sons, Steve and Michael, joined him and started Roberts Painting Co. Earl loved to paint in his boom truck and continued to work well into his retirement.

Earl loved all sports. He was a gifted basketball and baseball player in high school. He played Rock River baseball for many years and is in their Hall of Fame. Earl not only played baseball, but also was a respected little league coach for many years in Beaver Dam. Later in life, he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in their many sports and other activities.

Earl was a member of the Beaver Dam Conservation Club and Ducks Unlimited for many years. He was an avid hunter who cherished his hunting trips to Northern Wisconsin, the Mississippi River and South Dakota.

Earl enjoyed playing pool, skiing, snowmobiling and golfing with his family and friends. Also he and his wife Joan traveled extensively throughout their married life.

Earl is survived by his wife Joan and their children, Juanita Roberts of Beaver Dam, LeAnn (Jamie) Adley of Longwood, FL, Steve (Janet) Roberts of Columbus and Michael (Gina) Roberts of Beaver Dam; grandchildren, Bucky Mulvaney, Brooke (Chad Uelmen) Mulvaney, Brianne (Chad) Webster, Laine and Brennan Adley, Ian, Spencer, Jordan and Ali Roberts and Hadley, Marley and Riley Roberts; great-grandchildren, Jack and Seth Webster; brothers, Hugh (Jane) Roberts and Dana (Judy) Roberts; sisters, Arlys (Mick) Omen, Joanne Gilbertson, Murial Jovle, Mary (Arnold) Tillema, Cynthia (Al) Nehring and Debra (Jim) Syens; brother-in-law, Claude McCormick; sisters-in-law, Jean Hinz and Audrey Roberts, and many nieces and nephews.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Maurice; brothers-in-law, Rodney Gilbertson, Hector Jovle and Tom Hinz; sister-in-law, Rita McCormick; father and mother-in-law, Clem and Marie Hinz and nephew, Greg Griffith.

Earl loved his time spent with family and friends. He was kind, generous and a true gentleman. He will be missed by all, but his memory lives within those who knew him.

A Celebration of Earl’s Life will be held on Monday, October 7, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam. A Memorial Gathering will take place prior to the service at Cornerstone, beginning at 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Earl’s name may be made to Beaver Dam Youth Baseball, the Beaver Dam Conservationists or the Randolph Booster Club.
