Mark “Doc” C. Schweitzer, age 63, of Beaver Dam, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 26, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer at his home.

Doc was born on August 19, 1950, in Beaver Dam to Walter M. and Lydia G. (nee Rubi) Schweitzer. He graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1968. After high school, he worked at Mallable Iron Range and served in the United States Army for two years. He went on to earn B.A. and M.A. degrees in Education from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Doc began his 27 year teaching career right back where his own education began—at Washington Elementary School in Beaver Dam. He then taught at the Beaver Dam Jr. High/Middle School, where he was instrumental in forming the BDMS Stock Market Club. He was an active Beaver Dam Education Association member, serving many years on the bargaining team and as the lead negotiator. Doc refereed girls volleyball and coached boys and girls basketball, girls JV softball and the Little League Tigers team for many years. He also did land surveying during the summer months.

During his free time, Doc enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, gardening, canning, golfing with his son Bucky and watching NASCAR races. He was also an avid Packers and Badgers fan and a member of Ducks Unlimited and Trinity Church – United Methodist in Beaver Dam. Doc strongly supported medical research and organ donation. He will be remembered very fondly by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him, especially the many students whom he taught and made feel important in their own special way. His wonderful, special laughter and smile will be sorely missed.

Doc is survived by his children, Bucky Mulvaney of Menomonee Falls, Brooke (Chad Uelmen) Mulvaney of Beaver Dam and Brianne (Chad) Webster of Beaver Dam; two grandsons, Jack and Seth; his siblings, Walter “Skip” L. Schweitzer of Mission, TX, Mary Stallard of Phoenix, AZ, Michael (Norma) Schweitzer of Redding, CA, Marcia Watson of Scottsdale, AZ, Paul “Dusty” (Anne) Schweitzer of Beaver Dam and Bret (René) Schweitzer of Hartland; and his brother-in-law, Merwyn Meyer of Suamico. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was formerly married to Juanita Roberts in 1984.

Doc was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dennis, his sister, Patricia, his niece, Renee Spawn and other relatives.

A Memorial Service for Mark will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Church – United Methodist, 308 Oneida St, Beaver Dam with Rev. Sonja Parr officiating. A Memorial Gathering will take place prior to the service at the church, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
