Guy “Hoppy” E. Hopkins, age 62 of Randolph, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at home surrounded by his family.
Guy was born on April 24, 1951, along with his twin brother Gary, to Elwyn L. and Elisabeth J. (nee McMorris) Hopkins at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Beaver Dam. He graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1969. Being raised on the family farm in the town of Courtland, Guy learned through his family to treasure the farm lifestyle from planting through harvest time. He always enjoyed helping his brother-in-law, Stan, on the farm. Guy loved the small town atmosphere where people knew each other and many friendships were made. He lived his life to the fullest and loved every minute of it.
Guy was a very proud member of the Randolph Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, where he remained an active member. He also served with the Randolph EMS for 10 years. Guy liked being able to help others. Guy was also an avid sports fan, especially the Packers, Badgers and Brewers. He loved participating in Fantasy Football and NASCAR with his children, and enjoyed following the Randolph Rockets football and basketball teams. Guy enjoyed the game of golf, whether he was playing a round out on the course or just simply hitting a bucket of balls.
Guy was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for 27 years. He served in many state, district and local positions. He was currently a member a member of Fond du Lac Aerie Post #270 and the Past Presidents Club. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church of Randolph, where he was a past member of the Ad Council.
Guy was previously employed at Weyenberg Shoe Factory, Kirsch Foundry and Northern Hatcheries. After moving to Randolph, Guy became employed with the Village of Randolph, with his last 8 years serving as the Street Superintendent. He later went to work at G.G. Barnett as a truck driver, where he was able to work with his brother Mark and his side-kick Pee Wee McCaully. Guy began work with the United Cooperative in South Beaver Dam in 2007 as a truck driver, before he regrettably had to end that employment in 2012 due to illness.
Guy’s main and strongest love was his family. On July 18, 1992 he was married to his life and eternal partner, Yvonne M. Werner in Eagle River, WI on the pier of the family home, that meant so much to them.
Guy is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Yvonne of Randolph; his three children, Kristy (Tim) Tabker and their children, Bailey, Brody and Bryce of Burnett, Leon Hopkins and his son Jayden of Randolph and Charlie Hopkins and his fiancée Nicole Griswold and their children, Brutus and Calvin of Beaver Dam; his sister, Phyllis (Jim) Schave of Pardeeville; his twin brother, Gary (Julie) Hopkins of Springhill, FL; his brother, Mark Hopkins of Cambria; his brothers-in-law, Stan Steinhorst of Randolph and Dan Werner of Eagle River; and his sister-in-law, Heather Miller of Beaver Dam. Guy is also survived by his step-mother, Marjorie Hopkins of Randolph and two step-sisters, Sharon (Vick) Zander of Randolph and Nancy (Pete) Turck of Beaver Dam; one step-brother, Melvin Schultz of Las Vegas, NV; many special nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and close friends.
Guy was preceded in death by his father, Elwyn Hopkins, his mother, Elisabeth Hopkins and two sisters-in-law, Terri Steinhorst and Kelly Hopkins.
A Funeral Service for Guy will be held on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Randolph, 227 N. High Street, Randolph with Rev. Mary Balson and Chaplain Dennis Richards officiating. Visitation will take place on Sunday, November 3, 2013 from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, Beaver Dam and also on Monday from 10:00 until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will take place at Randolph City Cemetery.
